New Yorkers can go to the movies again, but only outside of the Big Apple, Gov. Cuomo announced Saturday.

Cinemas can resume showings Oct. 23 at 25 percent capacity, with a maximum of 50 people per screen, Cuomo announced at a morning press briefing.

He limited the reopenings to counties outside of New York City, including Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester, with low coronavirus infection rates and no hot zones.

Large cinema chains had implored Cuomo to allow the reopenings.

Officials moved to shut down an upcoming wedding Monday in Williamsburg with an expected 10,000 attendees. The New York City Sheriff served a state order Friday night prohibiting the event, said Elizabeth Garvey, Cuomo’s special counsel.

“Look, you can get married. You just can’t have [10,000] people at your wedding,” said Cuomo. “You get the same result at the end of the day.”

Cuomo also said the state will move to a “micro cluster” strategy rather than a regional approach in imposing any future limits to the stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“Target it, and target your strategy down to that level,” he said. “It requires more testing, more targeted testing, and then you have to be responsive to the situation for that specific locality with mitigation measures.”

The state used that approach in declaring hot zones in parts of Brooklyn and Queens where the number of COVID-19 cases spiked in recent weeks.

“It has the advantage of causing less disruption,” Cuomo said. “If you have a problem in Kew Gardens, Queens, and that’s your problem, then why affect activity in the rest of Queens, let alone Brooklyn, Bronx, etc.? It’s much smarter, it’s more effective, it’s also less disruptive.”

The coronavirus positivity rate stood at 4.3 percent in the state’s “red zones” on Friday, a dip from 4.84 percent a day earlier, he said.

Overall, the statewide rate was 1.1 percent.

The number of those hospitalized hit 929, up 11 from a day earlier. Nine people died.
