Nigeria at 60: Desist from divisive acts – NANS tells youths

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has charged Nigerian youths to refrain from acts that could divide the country.

The students body, in its Independence Day message to Nigerian youths, asked all students to show more commitment and interest in the country’s wellbeing, saying more dedication and patriotism were required from all and sundry.

Speaking to DAILY POST on Thursday, the National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Azeez Adeyemi, stated that the country had experienced a measure of development since independence in 1960.

He, however opined that a lot more was still required from the citizenry, especially the youth, to push the nation forward.

“I want to tell the youths and great Nigerian students that we must be ready to assist government in whatever ways to provide information that would be helpful to continue to promote an atmosphere of peace and security. Government alone cannot do it.

“I implore you all as leaders to preach the message of peace in your homes, neighbourhood, at school and at any given opportunity. We must all unite as young people to say no to those issues that divide us by promoting peaceful co-existence,” he said.

In his message to the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU), the NANS PRO appealed to the varsity lecturers to suspend their strike in the interest of Nigerian Students and parents.

NANS called on the Federal Government to address the demands of ASUU once and for all.
