Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has promised to pay all outstanding entitlements of workers in the state.

The governor made this promise on Tuesday while swearing-in six newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, four Principal-Generals and four Head teacher-Generals at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

DAILY POST recalls that workers in Ogun State recently declared a one-week warning strike over the failure of the governor to pay the new minimum wage among other entitlements.

The strike was called off the third day after the organised labour and government signed a memorandum of understanding.

Reacting to the workers’ demands, Abiodun said his administration will not deny labour the rewards of their meritorious and hard work.

While priding himself as a child of retired Public Servants, the governor said he appreciated the importance of the entitlements to the welfare and wellbeing of workers, serving and retired.

“I am particularly using this occasion to state the commitment of our administration to off-set all outstanding dues and other entitlements as the financial status of the state improve”, Abiodun promised.

He reaffirmed that his government will not renege on its promises, saying it was deploying resources to ensure a conducive environment for workers in the state.

He maintained that workers’ pensions, as well as other entitlements, would always attract his administration’s attention and immediate intervention.

According to him, his government had cleared backlogs of promotions of over 10,000 personnel in the education sector, claiming to have also sent some of them on overseas training.

“I must state that the process to clear the backlogs of 2018, 2019 and 2020 promotion exercises is at an advanced level,” he revealed.
