Onlookers flock to dead body in Queens despite coronavirus fears

Even fears about the potentially deadly coronavirus couldn’t stop a small crowd of people from gathering around a dead man who had jumped from the Throgs Neck Bridge on Friday.
Police removed the body from the waters at Little Bay Park at around 1 p.m. and put it in a body bag on the grass near a bike path at the green space.
The unidentified man had jumped off the Throgs Neck Bridge shortly after noon, cops said.
As officers blocked off the surrounding area with yellow police tape, bystanders in the park gawked and took cell phone pictures of the scene.
“This is a huge thing to happen here,” said one park-goer who would only identify herself as Salena P., 23. “There are a lot of questions and everyone is wondering what is going on.”
While people stopped to congregate, one woman griped how it’s tough to keep social distances in the Big Apple.
“New York is the worst to stay apart. This is crazy,” she said.
State and city officials have been calling for folks to maintain a distance of at least six feet while out in public amid the virus outbreak.
