It looks like the NFL has avoided at least one catastrophe this weekend.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning that the COVID-19 test that had come back as positive on Saints fullback Michael Burton on Saturday was actually a false positive.
“The reported positive test on a Saints’ player was rerun and came back negative, per source,” Schefter wrote on Twitter.
Burton’s rapid test was also negative, according to The Athletic.
An ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 cases already prompted the postponement of Titans-Steelers earlier this week. Sixteen Tennessee players and staff have tested positive for the virus so far.
The marquee Chiefs-Patriots matchup has also been pushed to Monday or Tuesday of this week after star quarterback Cam Newton tested positive on Saturday.
Schefter added that the Saints-Lions game — which is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET — “is still on.”
