Titans may finally play football again after latest COVID-19 news

0

There’s still plenty of time before Tuesday’s scheduled kickoff, but as of now the Tennessee Titans are on track to play football again.

The Titans had no new positive COVID-19 tests Monday morning, according to NFL Network, after an assistant coach tested positive on Sunday. However, because the coach was already isolated from the team, the Titans were given clearance to practice on Sunday. The Titans are set to host the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Tennessee hasn’t played in more than two weeks as it has had 24 positive COVID-19 tests between players and staff. The Titans (3-0) last played on Sept. 27 against the Minnesota Vikings, having had their Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers postponed to Week 7.

The Titans also took two players — defensive tackle Daquon Jones and long snapper Beau Brinkley — off their COVID-19 reserve list. Jones and Brinkley were two of the eight players initially added to the list after the team’s Sept. 29 outbreak.

The Patriots also had no new coronavirus cases Monday after a fourth player tested positive Sunday. New England could return to practice Wednesday if there are no more positives. Their Week 5 game against Denver, which had already been pushed to Monday after star corner Stephon Gilmore tested positive, was postponed until next week as part of the NFL’s eight-game restructuring to help accommodate affected teams.

Two of those games feature the Jets, who will now play the Dolphins on Sunday instead of the Chargers, who they’ll face in Week 11 instead.
