“The United States cannot have all Mail In Ballots. It will be the greatest Rigged Election in history. People grab them from mailboxes, print thousands of forgeries and ‘force’ people to sign. Also, forge names. Some absentee OK, when necessary. Trying to use Covid for this Scam!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Last week, the president threatened to “hold up” funding for Michigan and Nevada if they carry through with plans to allow residents to cast mail-in or absentee ballots.
Officials in those states said they were worried about people risking their health by going out to vote in person during the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump backed off the ultimatum a day later.
“They’ll be finding out very soon if it’s necessary. I don’t think it’s going to be necessary,” Trump told reporters at the White House Wednesday.
Trump cast his vote in March’s Florida primary by mail but said he’s worried about rampant fraud if done on a large scale.
“I’m at the White House. And I have to send a ballot to Florida, that makes sense. So if you needed for some reason, or if somebody’s not well, that’s one thing,” Trump said. “But when you send out 7.7 million mail-in ballots there’s forgeries, there’s frankly duplication where they print ballots on the same kind of paper with the same kind of machinery and you can’t tell the difference.”
