Early votes pour in for Georgia Senate runoff elections

More than 2.8 million votes have already been cast in the Jan. 5 Senate runoff elections that will determine whether Democrats or Republicans have majority control over the chamber, according to a report Thursday.
According to an analysis of totals from the Georgia secretary of state’s office, CNN reported that 2,818,303 early votes have been cast – 897,201 by absentee ballot and 1,920,902 by in-person ballot.
The number of absentee ballots requested as of Thursday is 1,331,367.
Incumbent Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler are being challenged by Democrats Jon Ossoff and the Rev. Raphael Warnock in races that have gained nationwide attention because of the implications over Senate control and how it will affect President-elect Joe Biden’s ability to govern.
If Ossoff and Warnock emerge as winners, the Senate would be split 50-50, giving Vice President-elect Kamala Harris the ability to break any tie votes.
Polls show the candidates are locked in dead heats.
A RealClear Politics average of the polls in Georgia gives Ossoff a 0.8 percent advantage over Perdue and Warnock a 1.8 percent edge over Loeffler.
Biden, who became the first Democrat to win Georgia since Bill Clinton in 1992, and President Trump are both heading to the Peach State on the eve of the runoff to stump for their candidates.

Trump will rally with Perdue and Loeffler at the Dalton Regional Airport on Monday, while Biden will campaign in Atlanta.
Harris is heading to Georgia on Sunday for a rally in Savannah.
