LAPD opens hate crime probe after Trump supporters attack black woman 1

The LAPD has opened a hate crime investigation after viral photos emerged of a black woman being attacked by a crowd of Trump supporters.

Berlinda Nibo was walking home in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday when she encountered members of a local ‘Stop the Steal’ demonstration and began to live-stream the event, the Washington Post reported.

When supporters of the president’s effort to overturn the election saw her recording, things grew ugly.

“They’re yelling at me because of my color, calling me the n-word, calling me the b-word, saying, ‘All lives matter. Black lives doesn’t matter,’” Nibo, 25, told KCAL.

When she responded to her harassers, dozens of demonstrators swarmed and pushed her, beat and punched her, ripped her wig off and doused her with pepper spray, she told the station.

“I’m telling them, ‘No, I’m not a Trump supporter. I don’t care. Please just leave me alone. I’m just trying to get home,’” she recounted to KTTV.

Nibo said she believed the crowd would have tried to kill her if a man wearing a Trump 2020 hat hadn’t stepped in to shield her and lead her to safety.

“The entire time, he kept whispering in my ear, ‘Don’t move, they’re trying to kill you, they’re trying to kill you,’” she told the station.

“The LAPD is continuing to conduct a thorough investigation, and we encourage any witnesses or those with information on the suspect(s) to contact Central Area Detectives,” police said in a statement.

Nibo says she escaped physically unscathed, but is shocked and depressed by the outrageous display of violent racism.

“I don’t understand what’s going on in the world,” Nibo said. “I’m saddened by it. I’m heartbroken by it.”

Six people were arrested in a clash between Trump supporters and counter protestors, but no one has been arrested in connection with the attack on Nibo, according to NBC Los Angeles.
