The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) met on Monday.

They convened a stakeholders’ forum to discuss implementation of recommendations of the Presidential Panel earlier established on Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Presidential aide, Tolu Ogunlesi, gave details of the meeting via his Twitter account.

The parley acknowledged the need for “psychological evaluation, training and retraining of disbanded SARS officials prior to re-deployment.”

Five Technical Sub-Committees will be set up to design work plans for implementation of the Police Reform Report.

They are: Training, Capacity and Re-orientation; Logistics – Infrastructure, Communications and Tech; Arrest, Detention, and Investigations; Regulations, Oversight and Accountability; Financing and Partnerships.

NHRC was asked to set up an Independent Investigation Panel to look into human rights violations by the defunct SARS and other segments of the Police.

The time frame for this is one week.

Also, an open call for memoranda from members of the public will be released within one week.

Ogunlesi disclosed that the meeting concurred that Nigerians have lost a great deal of confidence and trust in the Police.

The forum said it was important for the Police to implement ways to restore trust.
