Bingeing “Bridgerton” lately?
If you were ever hoping to go back in time to the 19th-century Regency-era, where the characters of “Bridgerton” dwell in gauzy luxury, consider this $9.8 million Connecticut castle.
Built a century ago in 1913, the Freestone Castle — located in the heart of Greenwich — holds 11 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms.
Architect James C. Green first built the home for a descendant of the Revolutionary War, General Israel Putnam. The estate has undergone several modern interior renovations, but the historic structure remains.
The Castle — composed of brick and stone — sits on 4 acres of land and is a massive 20,298 square feet.

It was last sold for $5.5 million in 2017.
The main residence has eight bedrooms, and the staff quarters and carriage house holds three bedrooms.
“It’s separated into a few different sections. Back in those days, people lived with their servants, and so it was kind of designed for that type of lifestyle,” Danielle Claroni, the co-listing agent for the property, tells Realtor.

“When you think of a castle, you think of small rooms and dungeon types of spaces, but this is wide open rooms, with lots and lots of light — nice big, bright rooms with high ceilings. It’s really beautiful,” Claroni adds.
In the English country estate style, amenities include balustraded terraces overlooking a reflecting pool, formal gardens, a wine cellar and broad lawns. The home also has a tennis court and a five-door garage.
What is now a formal dining room with a focal fireplace used to be the castle’s ballroom. So you can enjoy a royal feast!
Because the castle and the surrounding gardens have historical designations, any changes made would require local approval. But Claroni says, there really is no need for any updates.
