An actual private island has just hit the market, listed at only $80,000.
Gillis Island in Canada sits on the illustrious Pinette River in Prince Edward Island. Spanning 10 acres of total isolation, the island is surrounded by yellow cedar trees — possibly the perfect remedy for a quarantine getaway on a budget. Plus, it’s just a 30-minute boat ride into the city of Charlottetown.
But despite the amount of privacy you’ll get, the largely untouched island has its downfalls, too. There is no running water or sewage system in place to get it up and running yet. And there is the little hiccup of having to develop your own house. Then again, you gain some, you lose some.
On the other hand, you can also go big or go home. For those looking for something a bit more luxurious, Whale Cay Island is listed for a whopping $59.9 million in the Bahamas. Stretching out to a colossal 735.92 acres — unlike Gillis island — it comes equipped with every amenity you could imagine.
The island includes a four-bedroom, eight-bathroom home, totaling 6,000 square feet.
According to the listing, the home also comes with a tennis facility, swimming pool and your very own museum. Other structures on the island include a doll house, a seaside cottage, a church and a lighthouse.
Whale Cay was once owned by Standard Oil heiress, Marion Carstairs, who helped develop the island in the 1930s. While on the island, she hosted a plethora of celebrities, along with heads of state including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
For those looking for something a little closer to home, three private islands went on sale near NYC earlier in the spring, ranging in price from $800,000 to $3 million.
