David Bakhtiari, the Packers’ Pro Bowl left tackle, suffered a season-ending knee injury during a New Year’s Eve practice Thursday, which according to multiple reports is believed to be a torn ACL.
Bakhtiari, 29, is a vital piece of the Packers’ offense as Aaron Rodgers’ blindside protector. In November, Bakhtiari signed a four-year, $103.5 million contract extension with the Packers that made him the highest-paid NFL offensive lineman ever.
The Packers are 12-3 entering their Week 17 finale against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. They would secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a win, which would give them the conference’s lone bye in the NFL playoffs and homefield advantage through the conference championship game.
Bakhtiari recently earned his third Pro Bowl nomination and was an All-Pro in 2018.
