Enter FOX Bet’s free $25K Thursday contest: Banking on a Patriots upset

FOX Bet’s latest free Thursday night contest, which gives players a chance to win $25,000, will run for the Rams vs. Patriots game. It will be touted as a Super Bowl 53 rematch, which technically it is, but both teams are significantly different than the ones that clashed in that title game.

The Rams no longer lean on Todd Gurley in the run game, nor do they have a third receiver weapon in Brandin Cooks. The Patriots also are missing a star or two, but we can’t quite recall who at the moment.

So throw that game out when evaluating here, outside of one pivotal matchup: Bill Belichick vs. Sean McVay. Belichick thoroughly outcoached the young upstart in that 13-3 Super Bowl triumph. And though we are now nearly two seasons removed from that game, we haven’t seen the kind of progress from Jared Goff that gives us any confidence Belichick can’t devise a way to confuse him again.

We also have little confidence in the Cam Newton-led Patriots offense. (Ah yes, that’s who is missing, QB Tom Brady. Knew I would eventually remember.) But Newton has been doing enough to deliver four wins in New England’s past five games.

If neither teams’ offenses get us excited, we don’t expect a blowout, and we do expect a lower scoring game. And though the Pats have looked much better in recent weeks after a 2-5 start, the Rams have won three of four themselves, and against quality competition. But they just don’t seem good enough to keep doing that.

Based on that analysis, here are my answers questions 4 and 6 in FOX Bet’s Super Six contest for Thursday night:

Pats in an upset by 3-4 points in a low scoring game that will hit the Under 44.5 (40-45).
