Maybe they were just fed up with 2020.
Mississippi State and Tulsa football players engaged in a big brawl at the end of the Bulldogs’ 28-26 win in the Armed Forces Bowl Thursday afternoon, with players pushing, shoving and throwing haymakers at one another.
At one point, Mississippi State wide receiver Malik Heath kicked Tulsa safety Tieneal Martin in the face after throwing him to the ground.
Another Tulsa safety, Kendarin Ray, had to be helped off the field and was examined for a possible concussion.
“I’m not going to comment a lot about it,” Tulsa coach Philip Montgomery said, according to the Tulsa World. “The one thing I’ll say is our program, our guys, we’re a team that is going to stand up for each other and we’re going to battle.
Mississippi State coach Mike Leach didn’t seem overly concerned about the fight.
“This is a football game so we’re not going to be tearing cloth over this deal,” he said on the ESPN broadcast after the game. “Somebody went to a football game and somebody got hit. There’s a point where I’m not going to lose my mind over it.”
He did later tell reporters that the brawl was “dumb,”
“Where the dumb started, I’m not entirely sure,” Leach said.
