Knicks land swingman Alec Burks in NBA free agency 1

With a league-high $35 million in cap space, the Knicks signed … Alec Burks.

Indeed, the Knicks’ free-agent foray got off to a slow start, but they made one signing late Friday night, grabbing swingman Burks on a one-year, $6 million deal, according to a source.

The 6-foot-6 Burks started his career at Utah, where new Knicks assistant GM Walt Perrin drafted him in the first round in 2011 and was coached by new Knicks assistant Johnny Bryant.

A journeyman, Burks played with the Sixers and Warriors last season, but he’s a scorer. This is Burks’ sixth club since 2018, spending last season with the Warriors and Sixers.

In 18 games with Philly last season, the 29-year-old from the University of Colorado averaged 12.2 points and shot 41.2 percent from 3-point range. He averaged 16 points for the woebegone Warriors and shot 37 percent from 3.

Burks, who is a career 36.4 percent 3-point shooter, can play some point guard.

This doesn’t move the needle much, but the Knicks entered free agency trying to bolster their 3-point shooting and Burks helps — even if he comes off the bench. He spent the first 6 ½ years in Utah.

The Sixers weren’t interested in bringing Burks back as they were set at that position after draft-night deals.

The Knicks lost out on Washington’s 3-point shooting machine, Davis Bertans, who signed a whopping 5-year, $80 million deal to stay with the Wizards.
