Nigeria’s meeting with Algeria would be characterized by a lot of findings as quality beckons on the pitch.

Both teams would test their steel as they prepare for the African Cup of Nations qualifier in November.

With both sides enjoying a new lease of confidence at the moment, we evaluate a few players that have got a point to prove as Djamel Belmadi’s Algeria trade fortune against Gernot Rohr-led Super Eagles on Friday.

Ahmed Musa (Team skipper)

After moving to Saudi Arabia to ply his trade despite an eventful performance at the World Cup in Russia 2018, the players’ form and quality have been questioned a couple of times in the Nigeria media.

He’s got a lot of points to prove even as the Captain of the Nigerian side. Stand-in-skipper, William Troost-Ekong who recently joined Watford before the international break has done well in his stead as the team captain.

It has led to several suggestions concerning Musa’s continued stay and place in the team as well as his stake to lead a side brimming with talents.

All eyes will be on him as Nigeria take to the pitch against Algeria with lots of expectations hanging on his shoulders.

Paul Onuachu

The Belgian striker was fortunate to get back to the team as Osimhen was excused for this game.

He was not originally in the 25 man squad list released by Gernot Rohr last month. It could be that his time has come to fulfil his potential especially as Odion Ighalo has retired from the Super Eagles.

He’s been criticized in the Nigerian media in recent times.

His stock has fallen to an extent, especially with the inclusion of the in form pair of Cyriel Dessers and Kelechi Iheanacho.

He just has to grab this opportunity now in Osimhen’s absence as there may not be any other time to do so in the Nigerian colours.

Cyriel Dessers

The Genk forward can’t wait to make his international bow having been in the news just as Victor Osimhen and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

He’s been impressive in the Pre-season for his Belgian side, to say the least. But since international football is different
from that of club football, much will be expected from the striker.

He could be the player to start in center forward for Nigeria, especially in Victor Osimhen’s absence.

Nigerians are hopeful that his pedigree in the Dutch Eredivisie as the top scorer last season will reflect on the National shirt, even as he gets set to feature against Algeria on Friday.
