The Patriots and Texans are staying busy.

Houston is trading for Patriots right tackle Marcus Cannon, the Boston Globe reported. The clubs are also swapping draft picks in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds, according to the report.

It marks the first trade between the two teams since Nick Caserio left Bill Belichick and the Patriots to become the new Texans general manager. The trade also comes nearly a week after the Patriots brought tackle Trent Brown back in a deal with the Raiders.

The Cannon deal was the Texans’ second trade of the day after dealing linebacker Benardrick McKinney to the Dolphins for pass-rusher Shaq Lawson.

Cannon, the Patriots’ fifth-round pick in 2011 and a cancer survivor, opted out of the 2020 season due to concerns over the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

After beginning the 2011 season on the non-football injury list as he recovered from chemotherapy treatment during the NFL lockout, Cannon made his NFL debut in Week 10 against the Jets.

The 32-year-old TCU product has had a number of injuries during his career, beginning with a toe issue that limited him to 12 games in 2015.

Cannon started in seven games of the 2017 season before suffering an ankle injury in Week 8 and was ultimately placed on injured reserve. He was the starting right tackle in the beginning of the 2018 season but dealt with a calf injury and a head injury early in the season. He managed to play 15 games in 2019 despite hurting his shoulder in Week 1.

The Patriots went 7-9 and missed the playoffs in their first year of the post-Tom Brady era in New England. Though they did re-sign Cam Newton on Friday, the Patriots still have a major question at quarterback and could add one in the draft.
