The Nets are going all in on the present.
Brooklyn is trading for Houston Rockets star James Harden in a blockbuster NBA trade involving the Cavaliers and Pacers, according to ESPN.
The Rockets are getting four first-round picks and four Nets pick swaps in the deal, and Caris LeVert will also be dealt to Houston. The Rockets, in turn, are flipping LeVert to the Pacers to acquire Victor Oladipo, according to multiple reports. Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince will go to the Cavaliers, per ESPN.
The Nets are giving Houston three unprotected first-round picks in 2022, ’24 and ’26 and are swapping first-round picks in 2021, ’23, ’25 and ’27. Houston will also get a 2022 first-round pick from the Cavaliers via the Bucks. The Nets also get a 2024 second-round pick from the Cavaliers.
Harden, 31, is reunited with former Thunder teammate Kevin Durant and creates a new big three with the currently absent Kyrie Irving. Entering this season, Harden had three years and $133 million left on his contract.
Harden, an eight-time All-Star, has been the NBA’s leading scorer in each of the previous three seasons.
