The fantasy football award winners who helped you win 1

As the fantasy football season wraps up, now is as good a time as any to thank those who brought us to our championships.

Though we would love to personally congratulate them and give them a pat on the back or a friendly punch to the arm, a simple shout-out in our humble newspaper will have to suffice in these times. To those receiving awards today, we thank you for delivering us to the winner’s circle.

My Arm Is a Thunderbolt Award: Aaron Rodgers (QB, Packers) — This was a tough one with so many quality gunslingers, but Rodgers takes home the honors this year. No one saw this coming, as evidenced by his 11th-round ADP. Passed over by so many, Rodgers threw for more than 4,000 yards with 44 touchdowns and a career-best 70.3 completion percentage.

Catch Me If You Can Award: Alvin Kamara (RB, Saints) — The season wasn’t without its struggles (see Taysom Hill), but Kamara paced running backs with 15 touchdowns before he hand-delivered a season-winning six-touchdown performance during championship week.

You Can’t Cover Me Award: Davante Adams (WR, Packers) — There’s nothing like being Rodgers’ ride-or-die during an MVP-caliber season, and Adams and his fantasy owners reaped all the benefits with more than 1,300 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

I Should Be a Receiver Award: Travis Kelce (TE, Chiefs) — An award that surprises no one, Kelce takes home the top honors among tight ends with a record-setting 1,377 receiving yards that come with a position-leading 11 touchdowns.

You Never Saw Me Coming Award: James Robinson (RB, Jaguars) — The man no one saw coming until it was too late was this Jaguars rookie running back. When Jacksonville released Leonard Fournette, most landed on Ryquell Armstead and Devine Ozigbo. Neither panned out by the start of the season, and in the first waiver period of the season, savvy owners scooped up Robinson, an undrafted free agent out of Illinois State, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns, for next to nothing.

The Baby’s First Steps Award: Justin Herbert (QB, Chargers) and Justin Jefferson (WR, Vikings) — This award should be titled “A Tale of Two Justins.” Both were drafted in the later rounds, and both delivered strong, early-round value. Herbert set the record for touchdown passes by a rookie (28) while throwing for more than 4,000 yards and Jefferson ranked in the top 10 overall in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches. This could have gone to Robinson as well.
